  1. What’s the point???

  2. Youth Group • 1. What’s the point of Youth Group? • Lead and Build • LEAD people to Christ • BUILD their faith

  3. The BIBLE • 2. What do you think about the BIBLE? • It’s BIG • It’s not difficult • Good place to start: • John (love) (It starts a little weird…) • Acts (stories) (Stephen)

  4. John 1 • In the beginning, the Word was already there. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. All things were made through him. Nothing that has been made was made without him. Life was in him, and that life was the light for all people. The light shines in the darkness. But the darkness has not understood it.

  5. Christians • 3. What is a Christian? • The word is used just 3 times in the New Testament.

  6. Acts 11:26 • For a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church. They taught large numbers of people. At Antioch the believers were called Christians for the first time.

  7. Acts 26:28-29 • Then Agrippa spoke to Paul. "Are you trying to talk me into becoming a Christian?" he said. "Do you think you can do that in such a short time?" Paul replied, "I don't care if it takes a short time or a long time. I pray to God for you and all who are listening to me today. I pray that you may become like me, except for these chains."

  8. 1 Peter 4:14-16 • Suppose people make fun of you because you believe in Christ. Then you are blessed, because God's Spirit rests on you. He is the Spirit of glory. Suppose you suffer. Then it shouldn't be because you are a murderer or a thief. It shouldn't be because you do evil things. It shouldn't be because you poke your nose into other people's business. But suppose you suffer for being a Christian. Then don't be ashamed. Instead, praise God because you are known by that name.

  9. How should we live? • 4. What did Christ tell us to do to follow him?

  10. Matthew 22:36-40 (part 1) • "Teacher," he asked, "which is the most important commandment in the Law?" Jesus replied, "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Love him with all your mind.' (Deu 6:5) This is the first and most important commandment.

  11. Matthew 22:36-40 (part 2) • And the second is like it. 'Love your neighbor as you love yourself.' (Lev 19:18) Everything that is written in the Law and the Prophets is based on these two commandments.“

  12. Heaven • 5. How can we be saved??? • John 3:16 “God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son. Anyone who believes in him will not die but will have eternal life.” • 6. What does it mean to believe in Jesus? • It’s not just a matter of existence…

  13. John 6:28-35 (part 1) • They asked him, "What does God want from us? What works does he want us to do?“ • Jesus answered, "God's work is to believe in the One he has sent." • So they asked him, "What miraculous sign will you give us? What will you do so we can see it and believe you? Long ago our people ate the manna in the desert. It is written in Scripture, 'The Lord gave them bread from heaven to eat.' " (quail)

  14. John 6:28-35 (part 2) • Jesus said to them, "What I'm about to tell you is true. It is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven. It is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. The bread of God is the One who comes down from heaven. He gives life to the world." • "Sir," they said, "give us this bread from now on.“ • Then Jesus said, "I am the bread of life. No one who comes to me will ever go hungry. And no one who believes in me will ever be thirsty.

  15. John 6:41 • Then the Jews began to complain about Jesus. That was because he said, "I am the bread that came down from heaven.“ • What did this sound like to them?

  16. 1 Peter 4:8-11 (part 1) • Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. • Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms.

  17. 1 Peter 4:8-11 (part 2) • If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. • If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.

  18. So what’s the point? • Again, what’s the point of meeting? • 1 Thessalonians 5:11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. • Ephesians 4:29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
