  1. Proposal of project Z. Wolf, A vibrating wire system for quadrupole fiducialization, SLAC, 2005, LCLS-TN-05-11 • Improve precision reached at that time (~ 20 μm) • Associate WPS sensors, and dedicated fiducials providing «absolute measurements» • Implement that solution for different types of quadrupoles and BPM for CLIC modules

Issue • 4000 MB quad of 4 different lengths will have to be pre-aligned and fiducialised on a common support, including BPM, stabilization system, within a global budget of error of 14 µm. • 40000 DB quad, will have to be pre-aligned 2 by 2 and fiducialised on a common support, including BPM, within a global budget of error of 20 µm • Short term: propose a solution based on a common wire that is feasible, precise and accurate • Some key points: • Integration • Find a common wire (SU, BI, magnetic measurements) • Determination of the magnetic zero and adjustment w.r.t a reference position • Determination of the electrical zero and adjustment w.r.t a reference position • Determination of the wire position w.r.t fiducials • Integration, compatibility between stabilisation et adjustment solution during fiducialisation • … • Long term:. • Automatisation of the process • Simplification (method, duration, components) • Extrapolation to other components • Optimisation of performances and precision in all domains • Preparation of industrialization

Common milestones between activities Activities: Magnets and magnetic measurements Beam physics Beam Instrumentation Alignment & adjustment Integration Stabilization Metrology • Measurements • DB quad prototype • MB quad prototype • Preparation of measurements • Choice of a common wire, measured by CMM, BPM, for magnetic measurements, by WPS sensors • Design of a support & adjustment system • Tests of compatibility between systems • Inter-comparison tests between FSI, Micro-triangulation and CMM measurements.

  4. Questions • Each activity could correspond to a WP. In the proposal, the deliverables and objectives of WP must be detailed. • How can each activity be articulated around the common milestones, what are the necessary developments to reach these milestones, what is the load of work? Which other directions could be followed? Associated trainings needed? • Doctorate students: what would be their subject, tasks, deliverables? • How can we integrate industries and universities in the project? Proposals of industries and universities? • Impact of the project? • How to implement it? • How to organize the writing of the proposal?
