  1. A Day in a Spartan Helot’s Life By: Jenna

  2. You You are Zoe, a 18 year old woman. Your master is out at war, so you have to run his business along with the other helots. His wife, Galene, and 3 month old son, Belos, are living at the house. They control all the actions in the work space while Galene’s husband is away. You help Galene tend to Belos. Your mother is dead.

  3. Early Morning Zoe wakes up to screaming Belos. She barely got any sleep due to Belos. It has been a week since her master has left for war. Since the she is already at making the baby’s food, Galene has to tend the baby herself.

  4. Morning Zoe goes to the grand dining hall in their home. A helot named Aella serves you grapes for the day. She knew your mother. After Galene and her son eats, they go to the great room.

  5. Early Afternoon In the great room, Galene writes a letter to her sister, Adonia. Belos goes to sleep on the floor. You bring him to his bed. You give the note to Duris, a helot who will deliver the note to Adonia in about a day.

  6. Afternoon Belos wakes up from his nap. You bring him to Galene. Your lunch consisted of grapes. It was a good meal. Zoe had water to drink.

  7. Late Afternoon Galene and Belos go for a walk in the town market square. You go with them. They buy flowers, fruit, wine, and olives. As she is walking home, she spots her friend Agape. Galene invites her and her child for dinner at her home. Agape agrees and promises to bring wine her elderly father had just made a week before. Zoe must tell the others about the dinner to prepare.

  8. Early Evening As the preparations are being finished, Agape and her son comes over for dinner. You have a meal of the left over pork stew and bread from their meal.

  9. Evening After putting Belos to bed, you and Galenewish the guests goodbye. You make some tea for Galene. You then get a bath started for her and call in some helots to bathe Galene. Then, you get Galene’s bed ready and put out sleeping garments.

  10. Late Evening You go to your sleeping quarters to get to bed. You must sleep so you are ready for the next day. Then you hear Belos crying. You run in your night clothes to him and calm him down. He goes back to sleep and you do, too.
