Introduction The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT), in collaboration with International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT-H) has set up an IT Certificate program ... …with a goal to increase productivity of engineering students by enhancing quality of IT education in Engineering Colleges IIIT-H will design curriculum, prepare digital content and provide teacher training for engineering colleges International Institute of Information Technology - Hyderabad

  5. Objective • To setup a training program which will train 12,000+ students per year in engineering colleges International Institute of Information Technology - Hyderabad

Conception • The IT certificate course is outside the degree curriculum • Introduce the program to students right after their first year of four years, so that • Students gain IT skills to use during the remaining 3 years of their degree program as well as after graduation • The training focuses on “Learning by Doing” methodology rather than on listening to lectures and writing exams International Institute of Information Technology - Hyderabad

The Plan • For the IT certificate course, IIIT-H will… • Design curriculum • Prepare digital content • Provide teacher training • Train faculty nominees of 10+ colleges starting Dec’ 2008 • Select 20+ colleges this year • At the participating college… … 150, 300, 600 students will be trained in first 3 years of participation International Institute of Information Technology - Hyderabad

About the teacher training program • Residential program • 6 days a week (Monday through Saturday) • Mentor trainees get to • Engage fully in training • Embrace the “Learning by Doing” methodology • Adopt the mentoring approach • Learn to implement the program at their college International Institute of Information Technology - Hyderabad

Program Participation Participating colleges must satisfy the following requirements: • Infrastructure • Computer Specification (Intel Pentium IV, 512 MB RAM, 80 GB Hard disk, CD-ROM drive) • LAN Specification (All systems connected with 100MBPS cabling) • Internet Specification (2 MBPS bandwidth) • Nominate 5 faculty members for the training program • Commit to implement the training program in their college International Institute of Information Technology - Hyderabad

  15. Program Administration Responsibilities of IIIT-H: • Design curriculum and prepare digital content • Provide training for the faculty nominees • Provide support for setting up computer labs • Help monitor the program International Institute of Information Technology - Hyderabad

Responsibilities of participating colleges • Schedule the program in the college calendar • By adopting one of the models of execution • Model 1: Course Duration: 16 weeks; 10 hours per week, 2 hours per day  • Model 2: Course Duration: 32 weeks; 5 hours per week, 1 hour per day • Model 3: Course Duration: 32 weeks; Self paced (a total of 160 hours) • Provide monitoring inputs to IIIT- H • Provide feedback from hiring industry International Institute of Information Technology - Hyderabad

Program Administration (Continued) • Commit to execute the program • Nominate 5 faculty members for teacher training • Dedicate faculty/ Hire mentors • Eligibility criteria for the faculty/ mentors • Graduates of B.Tech (IT and CS preferred), MCA / M.Tech • Send above faculty to be trained at IIIT-H from May-09 to August- 09 International Institute of Information Technology - Hyderabad
