Computer Timeline • 1936- First freely programmable computer • 1947/48- The invention of the transistor • 1953- Creation of the IBM • 1958- The Computer Chip was invented • 1959- The first bank industry computer • 1962- The first computer game came out • 1964- The creation of the “Mouse” • 1969- The original internet • 1985- Microsoft begins its “Friendly” Rivalry W/ Apple

  3. Timeline • 1968- Microsoft buys out “Special Effects Computer Group” and renames it PIXAR • 1987- IBM made the 3 1/2in. Floppy disc and video graphics array standard for computers • 1988- A co-founder of APPLE left to create a new computer called “NeXT” • 1989- Maxis releases “SimCity” • 1990- Microsoft comes out with Windows 3.0 • 1993- The Mosaic Web browser is released

  5. CPU • Central Processing Unit- This computer component sorts and manages the info processed on the computer.

  6. Video Card • Video Card- This component is an expansion card that generates output images, it renders 2-D and 3-D images.

  7. Ram • Random Access Memory- The RAM is a from of memory storage. This allows stored memory to be accessed in any order with a worst case performance of constant time.

  8. Hard Drive • HDD- The Hard Drive Disk is a non-volatile random access digital magnetic data storage device. It uses a laser and magnet to read a disk as it is spun on the device.

  9. CD-ROM • CD-ROM- “Compact Disc Read-Only Memory” This device uses a pre-pressed compact disc that contains data accessible by the CD-ROM.

  10. USB Port • USB Port- This computer component allows you to quickly attach and detach cables, systems, printers, and hardware with a compatible USB plug.

  11. PCI Card • PCI Card- This piece of hardware is known as a “computer bus” for attaching hardware devices to the computer.

  12. Motherboard • A Motherboard is the central printed circuit board (PCB) in many modern computers and holds many of the crucial components of the system.

  13. Power Source • Power Source- The power source is the device that supplies electrical energy to one or more electric loads to power an electrical device.
