  1. The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games ‘London 2012 has sport at it’s heart and London at the centre, but it’s more than London and more than sport.   2. Greenwich - A host borough for 2012 • Greenwich will host 6 Olympic Sports and 4 Paralympic Sports totalling 34 events • Greenwich will provide some of the most iconic venues of the 2012 Games • The Games will be a hugely significant milestone in the history of this borough • Greenwich will be firmly on the world stage watched by a television audience of over 4.3 billion who will witness the greatest sporting show on earth

  3. Greenwich VenuesGreenwich Park Equestrian events including: • Jumping • Dressage • Eventing • Paralympic equestrian • Three parts of the Modern Pentathlon Capacity: 23,000 (temporary arena) 75,000 for the one-day Cross Country event

  4. Greenwich VenuesRoyal Artillery Barracks - Woolwich • Shooting • Paralympic Shooting • Paralympic Archery Capacity: 7,000 (temporary arena)

  5. Greenwich VenuesThe O2 Arena – Greenwich Peninsula During Games time the venue will be known as the North Greenwich Arena and will host: • Artistic Gymnastics • Trampoline • Basketball • Wheelchair Basketball Capacity: 20,000 (existing arena)

Delivering the Games • ODA Olympic Development Agency – responsible for the delivery of the new venues and infrastructure • LOCOG London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games – responsible for staging and hosting the Games • Greenwich Council Working to ensure that local residents and businesses benefit from the opportunities created by the Games

  7. The Greenwich Vision “To provide a place for spectators, visitors and borough residents to enjoy and experience the atmosphere, excitement and inspiration of the Games during and after play each day”

The Greenwich Vision • To develop an entertainment programme for Games time as part of the Cultural Olympiad • To ensure Greenwich residents and young people have an opportunity to be part of the Games experience • To use Greenwich’s iconic venues to provide corporate hospitality facilities • To dress the borough to develop a “Greenwich look” and create a festival feel • To meet the needs of the athletes, Olympic family and visitors • To work with LOCOG and all service providers to deliver efficient and safe operational arrangements

Local residents Greenwich Council and its partners are working to create opportunities for residents to: • enjoy the Games - by negotiating to get tickets for local people to watch the Olympics, Paralympics and test events or - by watching the Games on Live Sites and enjoying the Cultural Olympiad • take part in Olympic-related programmes supporting people into work, volunteering or a range of sport and health-related activities

Local businesses We are working closely with local businesses to maximise the business and employment opportunities that the Games offer. • More than 14 Greenwich-based companies or organisations have supplied the Olympic Delivery Authority • More than 7 businesses have won Olympic related-contracts with a total value of over £17 million • More than 1,200 Greenwich residents have benefited from training programmes • 450 local people have gained work because of the Games

Training Camps • Four Greenwich venues are included in the Pre Games and Games Time Training venue programme • Thomas Tallis School • Crown Woods School • Sutcliffe Park • Charlton Athletic Football Training Ground • Olympic countries can apply to use these facilities in the lead up to, or during, the Games for training purposes • The accommodation at Greenwich University Avery Hill Campus is also included

  12. Test Events • Small test events will take place at the three Greenwich venues in the 12 months prior to the Games • Greenwich Park’s test event will be in July 2011 • Test events at Woolwich Barracks and the North Greenwich Arena are likely to be in Spring 2012

  13. The Cultural Olympiad • Permanent Live Site in Woolwich and temporary Live Sites applied for in Greenwich and Eltham – for live broadcasts of events and highlights after close of play • Entertainment programme aimed at family audiences organised for Live Site locations to create a party atmosphere • Possible nightly firework displays on the river • Olympic and Paralympic themed exhibitions

  14. Greenwich Legacy Greenwich Council is working to ensure the benefits of the London Games last well beyond 2012. The Council’s legacy fund of £17.5m will be invested in: • Maximising local employment and volunteering opportunities • State-of-the-art sports facilities at Thomas Tallis and Crown Wood schools • New sports facilities in parks, playgrounds and on housing estates • Developing a Cultural festival • Securing Green Flag status for 12 Greenwich parks • Planting 2,012 trees • Governing Body accreditation for 120 borough sports clubs
