CHALLENGES • Funding for programs • Funding for GED testing for adult students • Funding for student tuition in dual enrollment and/or after transitioning fully to post secondary • Inadequate coordination with Workforce Development programs • Lack of Technology resources • Under-prepared teachers for the 21st century adult learners • Inadequate coordination between adult education and post secondary education • Inadequate career development and counseling services for adult students

Opportunities for Overcoming Challenges • Braiding public and private resources to increase funding for programs • Utilize corporate and community resources to offset cost of GED testing • Work with Congress to reinstate Ability to Benefit for dually enrolled adult education students • Partner with WIA programs to serve eligible adult education students including career development and counseling services • Provide Teacher Certification in Adult Education • Provide ongoing Professional Development for program administrators, staff and faculty • Increase collaboration between adult education programs and post secondary education • Dual enrollment • Counseling and Career Development • Co-teaching adult education and post secondary courses for dually enrolled students • Joint professional development • Scholarships and/or grants for adult education completers
