Introductions: Who is AUSL? • Non profit partner with Chicago Public Schools • Started in 2001 • Manage schools (turnarounds) • Train teachers (residency program) • Our Theory of action • Fixing chronically underperforming schools requires a disciplined school management approach anchored by well-trained and effectively supported teachers • Current impact (2012-13) • Managing 25 schools, 14k students, 96% F/R lunch • Training 180 resident teachers • Performance: 3x district average gains per year, closing the achievement gap by half within 3-4 years
