  7. Symptoms • Appear 2-5 days after infection • Gangrene of the extremities (fingers, toes, lips, tip of the nose) • Chills • High Fever • Muscle cramps and seizures • Swollen areas on neck, armpit, or groin (Buboes) • Vomiting • Extreme pain • Delirium

  8. Bubonic Plague/Black Death • Killed over 25 million people, which was over 1/3 of total European population in the 1300’s. • 66 % case fatality rate. • The plague was a turning point in the European economy because so many people died that wages rose and people were able to take on jobs that they couldn’t before. • Helped to break down Feudalism because peasants had more options available to them.
