Aims of This Session • To get to know with each other; • To confirm the objectives and expected outputs of this program; • To confirmthe timetable of the course; • To make necessary fine-tuning reflecting needs and expectations of the participants; and • To distribute roles & responsibilities.

  5. Activity No.1:Paired Interview We break into pairs (a group of two persons), and in each pair one interviews the other to know about him/her. Each has 5 minutes. After the interview, you will introduce your partner to the group. You should at least ask about: • Full name and nickname; • Name and type of trade union; • Trade union experience and expertise in financial analysis of enterprise and CB; and • What does he/she want to achieve in this training course?

  10. Long-Term Objectives of this Training Course To achieve Better capacity of unions in financial/ economic analysis of enterprises Improved bargaining position of unions in C.B. Better capacity of unions in protecting right to C.B.

To Achieve Long-Term Objectives, We Need: 1 To promote a structure within trade unions responsible for F/E Analysis 2 To strengthen the capacity of unions for F/E Analysis and workers’ rights 3 To facilitate workers’ education and training programmes on F/E Analysis 4 To build up networks of trade unions on F/E Analysis and workers’ rights

  12. Immediate Objectives By the end of the course, all participantsshouldbecome able to Effectively analyze financial and economic performance of enterprises (through annual report) Fully utilize supervisory mechanism of the ILO and other international instruments for right to C.B.

Target Outputs of the Course • Focal Points for Financial Analysis in 16 unions in the Regionwho have capacity of; • Effectively analyzing financial and economic performance of enterprises; • Using international instruments for protection of right to collective bargaining; • Providing assistance/advise to other unions in the country/region on financial analysis of enterprises. • 16 project proposals for promoting the effective financial/economic analysis; • A regional network of Focal Points.

  18. What is “Work Plan”? • A work plan is: aproject proposal that aims to bring about a positive change by tackling with a “problem” • Work plansneed to be implemented • Work plansmustbe time-bound • The objectives of work plans must be “feasible”, “realistic” &“achievable”.

  19. Model Format = SPROUT • SPROUT = Summary Project Outline: • the standardized format for project proposal used by the ILO and other UN agencies What is yourproblem? Project What should bethe ideal situation? What to do? What causesthe problems? How can youattain the situation?

Conditions for the Work Plan “Problem” must be related to “weak point(s)” of your union in financial/ economic analysis of enterprises 1 “Cause” of the problem must be identified, and it should be “solvable” by your union’s action 2 “Solution” must be linked with the issues you will have studied during this training course 3

  21. Development Schedule • By the End of First Week (12 Aug.) • Identification of the main “problem”, “desired situation” and “needs” • By the End of Second Week (19 Aug.) • Elaboration on “solutions” and “strategies” • On 26 August • Presentation of the first draft of your workplan

  24. 6. Distribution of Responsibilities • Team Leader • Daily Report Team • Recreation Team

Team Leader (Chairperson) • Rotates weekly (no re-election) • Assists and encourages participants to be punctual at all times especially for training sessions • Assists and encourages participants to keep the training room tidy • Assists trainers/resource persons as necessary • Gives a vote of thanks to resource persons • Sets an example of participation and encourages other participants to actively participate.

  26. Daily Report Team • Rotates daily – formed by a pair of participants • Takes notes of, and summarizes the major points and key findings of each training session (no more than five major points) • Reports the summary of the key findings at the beginning of the following day (10 minutes).

  27. Recreation Team • Rotates weekly – formed by 4 participants • Plans, proposes and arranges social and cultural activities or events during free time or for weekend • Plans and implements short energizers that participants can demonstrate during or between training sessions (e.g. singing a song, stretching or exercising) • Should decide a team leader.
