  6. Why Humidify

  7. What is humidity? Absolute humidity – mass of water in a particular volume of air. Relative humidity– The ratio of the partial pressure or density of the water vapor in air to the saturation pressure, respectively, at the same dry bulb temperature and barometric pressure.

  8. What is humidity? Relative Humidity– Simplified – the amount of water vapor in the air at a specific temperature compared to the maximum water vapor that the air is able to hold without it condensing, at that given temperature. Simplified… – How full (of moisture) is the air.

  9. 100% R.H. What is RelativeHumidity? 25% R.H. 72° F 35° F

  10. 100% R.H. What is RelativeHumidity? (gr/lb) Humidity Ratio (mixing ratio) – The ratio of the mass of the water vapor to the mass of dry air. 120 25% R.H. 30 35° F 72° F 120° F

  11. What is RelativeHumidity?

  12. Why Humidify?FOR PEOPLE

  13. Why Humidity? – For People Webster’s Dictionary Airconditioning, n. The process of regulation the quality, temperature, humidity and circulation of air in a space enclosure.

  14. Why Humidity? – For People • Ventilation for IAQ • Can have a dramatic effect on the thermal comfort of occupant • 15 CFM per person creates about 1 air change per hour in a space • Ventilation can cause high and low humidity levels

  15. Why Humidity? – For People Indoor RH% after heating to 70 °F

  16. Why Humidity? – For People

  17. Why Humidity? – For People DATABASE 412 buildings 62 million sq. ft. 365,000 estimated occupants

  18. Why Humidity? – For People Health and Comfort Optimum Zone 40% 60% 50%

  19. Why Humidity? – For People “Research conducted in twelve public schools showed a 20% reduction in absenteeism in all schools when relative humidity was raised from 20% to 35%.”

  20. Why Humidity? – For People • Healthier Environment • Increased Comfort • Reduced Absenteeism • Higher Productivity
