Samuel de Champlain

Samuel de Champlain (1567-1635) was a significant figure in the exploration of Canada. Born in Brouage, France, he embarked on expeditions from 1605 until his death in Quebec in 1635. Champlain is best known for navigating the St. Lawrence River, where he interacted with several Indigenous groups, including the Iroquois. His explorations led to the establishment of Quebec and laid the groundwork for French colonial claims in North America. Champlain dedicated his life to fostering relationships with Native peoples and promoting trade and settlement.
