  2. President’s Message By Renae Paulson, RN February 1, 2010 Dear RNS Members and Friends; Did you know that February is National Heart Month with special attention to Valentine’s Day, President’s Day, and even Groundhog Day? What do these days have in common? PASSION. Passion happens to be one of the primary characteristics of a nurse. Passion motivates you to get involved and to take action. Nurses care about the well-being of others and seek to provide fair treatment for the impaired and infirmed. Nurses are natural educators and caregivers. Nurses lead from their heart followed by education and experience. Their goal is to protect and serve in the community to those in need. If you aren’t a nurse, do you share this passion? You bet. Passion drives behavior and if you are a friend of RNS, then you know what I am talking about. We are a group of passionate and compassionate caregivers that reach far into the medical community to address the needs of others. I am encouraged by the graciousness and support of so many in our organization. I feel so blessed for the years that I have been able to serve on the RNS Board of Directors. It is fast becoming the end of my 2-terms as the RNS president and as such, during the meeting the Nominating committee was named. Chaired by Carmen Gutierrez, with Donna Pope and Dale Prince assisting, you can expect a call in the next months seeking out RNs that are willing to serve on the Board of Directors of this most esteemed organization. The 2011-2012 terms begin on 1-1-2011. Please prayerfully consider this opportunity to serve. Make plans now to come to the RNS meetings in 2010 and mark your calendar for the 4th Thursday of every month to attend the RNS meeting. I would like to thank our January speaker, Liberty Mutual’s Medical Director, Dr. Constantine Gean, for his presentation and interpretation of the MTUS guidelines (Medical Treatment Utilization Schedule). “Thank you” to the following vendors for their continuing generosity. Francine Aron of Casa Colina, Continuity Care home Nurses, Susan Gomez of Care Meridian, Patricia Klein of Northridge Hospital, Sandra Bross of Integrated Health Care, and Brenda Klass from the Care Center. Stay well and I hope to see you at the RNS meeting on February 25, 2010. Renae Paulson, RN RNS President:
