  9. Week 3 – session 1 • To understand references on a reading list and to be able to check for and find these materials in the library. • To be able to find the full text works either in print or as electronic sources.

  10. Week 4 – session 2 • Know examples of good and unreliable sources of scientific information. • Plagiarism, referencing and University of Southampton guidance on academic integrity

  11. Week 5 - session 3 • Know how to plan a search strategy. • Find out why Bibliographic databases are important to research. • Find references using a subject bibliographic database either ASFA or GeoRef.

  12. Week 6 – session 4 • Experience using a multidisciplinary science database to find references. • Know how to use ScienceDirect to get full text articles when you are in a hurry.

  13. Week 7 – session 5 • Find out how to set up an Endnote library and enter references by hand. • Find out how to import a file of references into Endnote – using the file saved in session 5. • Find out how to use Endnote to generate a bibliography in different citation styles. • Find out how to use the Endnote and Word CYWY feature.

  14. Week 8 – session 6 • Improve your internet research skills. • Discover some useful websites for future use.
