  1. Educational Travel (Student Travel) Real World Program 13 April 2007

  2. What is the Dependent Student Travel Program? IAW AR 55-46 Travel Overseas, dated 20 June 1994, the Joint Federal Travel Regulation (JFTR), paragraph U5243-C2c, and the Department of StateStandardized Regulation (DSSR)full time students attending school in the United States may be authorized one government-funded round trip ticket between the school and the sponsor’s duty station each fiscal (1 October-30 September).

  3. Requirements: • The family member must be enrolled in an accredited college in CONUS on a full time basis. • The military sponsor or the government employee must be accompanied on the tour by command-sponsored family members who become college students. • The student must be an unmarried dependent child under 23 years old. (Travel must be performed prior to the 23rd birthday) • Child cannot travel to sponsor’s duty station under Student Travel if the sponsor is transferring to U.S. or starting home leave within 30 days of child’s travel.

  4. Allowable Expenses • Transportation. The Command Sponsored Soldier is entitled to one Government funded trip per fiscal year for his or her family member between: • The student’s school and the sponsor’s duty station. • Other location to meet the family for vacation, not to exceed the cost to the Permanent Duty Station (PDS).

  5. Unaccompanied Baggage • A maximum of 350 pounds of unaccompanied baggage may be transported in connection with dependent student travel. • Storage at the school institution at Government expense not to exceed 350 pounds of unaccompanied baggage. • Restrictions • Expenses incurred before the child became eligible to travel cannot be reimbursed. • Transportation not used during a fiscal year does not carry over the ext fiscal year. • Separation from school. Dependent students who graduated, quit, or otherwise separated from their school must travel within 30 days following separation.

  6. Pets cannot be shipped. Early or advance return of dependents. Students who are returned to the United States by the overseas command for any reason using early return of dependents are not authorized dependent student travel. Cadets and midshipmen. Cadets and midshipmen attending a service academy (for example, West Point, Naval Academy and so forth) are not authorized to travel under the Dependent Student Travel Program.

  7. Application • Sponsor must submit a copy of his/her PCS orders/Government Civilian Travel Orders and verification from the college or university that the family member is a full time student. Enrollment verification must be current within six months of the requested travel. • Soldier applying for student travel, follow these steps (Soldiers): • IMCOM-Europe Personnel Websitehttps://www.updb.hqusareur.army.mil/IMCOMPersonnel/Default.asp • Select Family Travel • Go to Student Travel • Log into your AKO account • Complete and submit the application form that appears

  8. More information is available by calling the Family Travel Office at 379-6436 or commercial phone 06202-806436 for military personnel. Government civilian must contact their servicing CPAC.

  9. Student travel for CONUS Government Civilian hired family members. Obtain request for travel form from http://www.chra.eur.army.mil/, sections: living/working overseas-in processing information. Complete the request for travel orders form and submit to your supervisor for signature. Submit signed request to your resource management office for the fund cite. Provide to your servicing CPAC for preparation of travel orders. Coordinate travel arrangements with the local military transportation office.
