Introduction to Course • Will cover the legal and spiritual components of taharah(purity) and salah(prayer) • Based on the Hanafi school • Based on Maraqi‘l-Sa’adat (Ascent to Felicity) by Abu ‘l-Ikhlas al-Shurunbulali • Comprehensive yet concise primary in aqidah (creed)and fiqh (jurisprudence) • Imam Shurunbulali • Born 994 AH / 1586 AD in Egypt, raised in Cairo • Studied and taught at Al-Azhar • Authored Nur al-Idah, among other works • Passed in 1069 AH / 1659 AD • On 21st of Ramadan, after Asr prayer of Jumu’ah

Importance of Sacred Knowledge • “To seek sacred knowledge is an obligation on every Muslim.” (Ibn Maja) • “Whoever travels a path seeking sacred knowledge, Allah will place him on (make easy for him) a path leading to Paradise. The angels lower their wings for the student of sacred knowledge, pleased with what he is doing.” (Abu Dawud) • Correct intention is necessary • “Actions are only according to their intentions...” (Bukhari, Muslim) • Etiquette (adab) of seeking knowledge
