Nursing Admissions Information Session Here’s what we’ll cover during today’s session: • Application and Admission Process • What will happen and when? • Application Packet and Forms • What do you need to submit? • Options if Not Admitted • Reapplication, other majors, other schools? • Questions and Answers • What else do you want to know about?

  2. Application and Admission Process • Admission to the nursing major is highly competitive. Application does not assure admission. • Eligibility: • Accepted to SCSU • Completed application forms and supporting documentation • Completed, or in progress with, all prerequisite coursework • Minimum cumulative and prerequisite GPA of 2.75

  3. Application and Admission Process Review of applications is a 3 step process, and will begin following the application deadline. Qualified applicants who are chosen to progress through the admissions process will have additional deadlines and requirements throughout the admissions process following the deadline.

Application and Admission Process Step Two • Entrance Test • Admissions Committee reviews all paperwork (including transcripts, GPA, and references) and selects applicants to test • Testing occurs throughout the process, eligible students will be notified. • HESI Admission Assessment Exam (A2) • Standardized test with sections in English, Math, Science, and Personality/Learning Style Inventories • Study guide book available at bookstore and online

Application and Admission Process Step Three • Admissions Interview • Admissions Committee reviews test results, along with transcripts, GPA, and references, and selects applicants to interview • An interview schedule will be made available online. • Admissions Interview • Two Nursing faculty members • ≈ 15 minutes • Professional Interview

  7. Application and Admission Process Decisions • Final Admissions Decisions • Final decisions made mid/late-semester, following interviews • Based on combination of interview results, test results, transcripts, GPA, and references • 40 students admitted each start date, 80 total. • If admitted, students must meet additional requirements • Completion of prerequisites, CPR certification, criminal background check, health screening, orientation

  14. Student Checklist Page • Major/Minor Application Form • Fill in grades for all completed courses • Use IP for any courses in progress • Obtain course information from transcripts, DARS report, transfer evaluation worksheet • Do not need advisor signatures at this time

Student Checklist Page • Submit Transcripts • SCSU and all other schools attended • Can be official or unofficial • Verify course completion/registration and GPA • Students with Transfer Credits • Must provide Transfer Evaluation Worksheet or Degree Audit Report (DARS) – can be obtained from Records office or e-services website • Course Substitutions • Must provide course equivalency documentation
