    4. 4/23/04 4 Mid-Atlantic Institute for Space and Technology MIST MIST is a Maryland-Virginia Space Port Initiative with Broad Support from the Local Community, State Governments, Academia, and Industry Vision: National Center of Excellence for Rapid, Low-cost Space Access, Research and Education Mission: As a Technology and Educational Institute MIST is Committed to: Education and Technology Development Incubate and Advance Spaceport Operations, Small Satellite Integration and Test Capabilities, Micro-gravity Biotechnology and Material Science Research, and Related System and Discipline Technologies. Become a National Resource for Space System Design, Fabrication and Launch Operations Education Design, Fabricate and Launch Educational Satellites and Payloads. Enhance Education by Providing Scholarships Increase Regional Aerospace Employment

    6. 4/23/04 6 Facilities Utilized by MIST Pocomoke Flex Building (PFB) Swales Will Utilize This Facility For Thermal Blanket Development With UMES Swales/ILC Dover Will Utilize This Facility For Balloon Development Wallops Flight Facility Multi-Processing Facility (MPF) Swales/MARS will Manage this Facility WFF Environmental Test Facilities (WTF) Swales and Other Contractors Will Utilize These Facilities For Environmental Testing Of Spacecraft And Payloads As the WFF Support Contractor Swales will support work in these Facilities WFF Launch Facilities (WLF) MARS will Manage the Launch of DOD/NASA FALCON Launch Vehicles

MARS Will Provide The Launch Opportunities/Services for Launches from WFF MIST provides a mechanism for the State of Maryland to contribute to MARS with existing facilities We believe that this is important to the State of Maryland!!!! MIST will be the Enabler for Higher Education and the Prevention of the Loss of Skills from the Region We believe that this is important to the State of Maryland!!!! MIST will be the Development Cluster/Critical Mass of: Universities; Industry; Federal and Local Government We believe that this is important to the State of Maryland!!!! MIST will provide the mechanism for Swales to work with the local Universities We believe that this is important to GSFC/WFF!!!! MIST will provide a manufacturing facility for the Alternate Ultra Long Duration Balloons We believe that this is important to GSFC/WFF!!!!
