  3. God has placed you in Babylon • And the Lord gaveJehoiakim king of Judah into his hand (v 2) • And God gave Daniel favor and compassion in the sight of the chief of the eunuchs (v 9) • As for these four youths, God gave them learning and skill in all literature and wisdom… (v 17)

  4. God has placed you in Babylon • “I do not ask that you take them outoftheworld, but that you keep them from the evil one.” (Jn 17:15) • Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorifyGod on the day of visitation. (1 Pet 2:12)

  5. Babylon wants to change you

  6. Babylon wants to change you • And he brought them to the land of Shinar, to the house of his god, and placed the vessels in the treasury of his god. (v 2) • The king assigned a daily portion of the food that the king ate, and of the wine that he drank. (v 5) • And the chief of the eunuchs gave them names… (v 7)

  7. Babylon wants to change you • As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men… (1 Pet 2:4) • Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of jewelry, or the clothing you wear… (1 Pet 3:3) • With respect to this they are surprised when you do not join them in the same flood of debauchery, and they malign you… (1 Pet 4:4)

  8. God will exalt the faithful

  9. God will exalt the faithful • And in every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king inquired of them, he found them tentimesbetter than all the magicians and enchanters that were in all his kingdom (v 20) • Also see Daniel 2:48-49; 3:30; 6:3, 28.

  10. God will exalt the faithful • In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. (1 Pet 1:6-7)

  11. God will exalt the faithful • Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you… (1 Peter 5:6)

  13. Remember who you are.
