LHCb and DT Collaboration Tasks for LS1: VELO, Muon, Calorimeter, and HERSCHEL Updates

This document outlines the remaining tasks for the LHCb project during LS1, specifically detailing the contributions and responsibilities of the DT team. Key updates include necessary VELO maintenance to ensure safety during upcoming heavy work, progress on Muon chamber grounding, and the installation of additional shielding for the calorimeters. Preparations for the Forward Shower Counters (FSC) installation are also highlighted, with deadlines and tasks assigned to ensure all work is completed efficiently and safely before the summer shutdown.

  1. Remaining LHCb related tasks during LS1 with DT involvement LHCb/DT meeting, May 19, 2014

  2. VELO and Muon detectors • VELO: replacement VELO needs to be brought in a safe position while heavy work is done in the surface building from June onwards. • Muon: Work on chambers to improve the grounding (carried out by Nikolai), is to 90 % done. Two GEM chamber in M1 need still to be replaced (by INFN colleagues). Detector closing and alignment is a major effort. Preparations for the installation of additional shielding under HCAL need to carried out before the summer, in close consultation with our colleagues working on the calorimeters.

  3. Calorimeter • Consolidation of calorimeter moving system before end of June with Annecy colleagues as main actors, but Robert will assist them. • Remplacementdes soufflets des vis a billes SPD cote A et C et alignement. • Remplacement des soufflets des vis a billes ECAL cote A et alignement • Installation d'un systeme de fermeture des portillons des plateformes ECAL et HCAL cote A et C et passage des cables • Reparation du end switch HCAL cote C (remplacement et passage de nouveaus cables) • Cablage, controle et mise en fonctionnement des nouvelles protections (end-switch, fermetureportillons) • Misea niveau du systeme de commande et de l'armoire de controle des deplacements ECAL/HCAL. • In addition about 2 ½ days are needed for calorimeter movements, about ½ day per week.

  4. HERSCHEL (FSC) • Installation of 5 Forward Shower Counters (FSC) stations (4 scintillation counters per station) in the LHC tunnel before the cool-down of sectors78 and 81.  Installation should be done in August. • Preparation of mechanics done with PNPI technician. • Installation of cables for the counters, including supports and holes to pass through the cables.  Should be finished by June 15.
