  1. WHAT SHALL WE WEAR?

  2. Note: • The issue is not about you, your culture, church elder, church manual, the preacher…the issue is about God! He is the foundation of Sabbath, tithe, marriage, music and dress and adornment is not any different!

Why do we teach this subject? • It is the 1st angel’s message in verity (rev 14:6-7, 1cor10:31, 1cor6:19) • We are God’s creation, He creates us not we ourselves (psalm 100:3, ecc3:14) • We are called to be Christ-like (1peter2:21, Isa53:1-2) • We are called to be distinct (1 peter2:9, Rom12:2) • Its an act of worship (Rom 12:1, Gen 35:1,2)

What then? • 1 Thessalonians 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. • 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil. • 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and [I pray God] your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  5. How shall we prove? • Isaiah 8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, [it is] because [there is] no light in them. • THE BIBLE • THE SPIRIT OF PROPHECY (THE TELESCOPE)

QUESTIONS TO ANSWER • Where does nakedness begin? • What are qualities of a good dress? • What factors should be considered while choosing dress? • Is there distinction between men’s clothing and women’s clothes? • Do our clothes affect our health? • Is fashion philosophical? • What about tight tops? • How should we dress for church?

  7. 1. Where does nakedness begin? • Genesis 3:21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them. • Exodus 28:42 “And thou shalt make them linen breeches to cover their nakedness; from the loins even unto the THIGHS THEY SHALL REACH.”

  8. In order to secure the most healthful clothing, the needs of every part of the body must be carefully studied…Everything worn should be so loose that when the arms are raised the clothing will be correspondingly lifted. • (Counsels to parents, teachers and students 306.2)

  9. A person’s nakedness reaches down to the knees. Moreover, in the design of the priestly garments, they did not stop at the knees but were made to extend down to near the ankles. That way, whether walking or seated, the high priest’s nakedness was sure to be covered.

  10. 2. Qualities of good dress • 1 Timothy 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; • 2:10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

  11. Our dress is to be inexpensive-not with “gold, or pearls, or costly array.’ Money is a trust from God. It is not ours to expend for the gratification of pride or ambition.” • But our clothing while modest and simple, should be of good quality, of becoming colours, and suited for service. It should be chosen for durability rather than display. It should provide warmth and proper protection.” CT 302

  12. In all respects the dress should behealthful. ‘Above all things,’ God desires us to ‘be in health.’ (3 John 2)- health of body and of soul….both are promoted by healthful dress. It should have the grace, the beauty, the appropriateness, of natural simplicity. CT 303.2

  13. 3. What factors should be considered while choosing our clothes? • In order to secure the most healthful clothing, the needs of every part of the body must be carefully studied. The character of the climate, the surroundings, the condition of the health, the age and occupation, must all be considered. Every article of dress should fit easily, obstructing neither the circulation of the blood nor a free, full, natural respiration (CT 306.2)

  14. 4. Is there distinction between men’s clothing and women’s clothes? • “The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.” Deuteronomy 22:5

  15. “There is an increasing tendency to have women in their dress and appearance as near like the other sex as possible, and to fashion their dress very much like that of men, but God pronounces it abomination…those who feel called out to join the movement in favor of woman’s right and the so-called dress reform might as well sever all connection with the third angel’s message. The spirit that attends one cannot be in harmony with the other. The scriptures are plain upon the relations and rights of men and women.” 1 T457.3

  16. “There is still another style of dress which is adopted by a class of so called dress reformers. They imitate the opposite sex as nearly as possible. They wear the cap, pants, vest, coat, and boots, the last of which is the most sensible part of the costume.” 1 T 459.7

  19. Continued... • What could be said of this? • Yet it is normal to wear it today! • Even by Christians to Church! • God forbid.

  20. “It is not modest apparel, and is not at all fitting for modest, humble women who profess to be Christ's followers. God’s prohibitions are lightly regarded by all who advocate doing away with the distinction dress between males and females.” 1T 460.1

  21. 5. Do clothes affect our health? • Another great cause of mortality among infants and youth, is the custom of leaving their arms and shoulders naked. This fashion cannot be too severely censured. It has cost the lives of thousands. The air, bathing the arms and limbs and circulating about the armpits, chills these sensitive portions of the body so near the vitals, hinders the healthy circulation of the blood, and induces disease, especially of the lungs and brain. {HL 147.2}

  22. Tight trouser disease!!! • Most ladies are seriously mining for diseases! Disease commom in the West where this foul practise has been practised for so long. 15% of women there had the condition by 1999. Symptoms include: Painful periods and excess bleeding (endometriosis)‏, Nausea ,Stomach upsets, Diziness, Headaches, Fatigue, In Britain, 1,000,000 had been treated for the condition by 1999.   23. 6. Dressing and philosophy • The pop culture of our day reflects the centerless pluralism of post modernity and gives expression to the antirationalism of postmodernisms. As evidenced in the clothes they wear and the music they listen to, postmodern are no longer convinced that their world has a centre. (Stanley Grenz, A primer on post modernism p37-38)

What about tight tops? • What is the difference between grannys and youthful girls? • Why don't grannys wear tight tops and trousers, skirts or mini skirts? • Well, grannys' bodies are sagging, everywhere!!! • The youths are too excited with their youthful body parts to observe reserve. They want to show them to everyone. SO DID THE ANCIENT ISRAELITES!

Ezekiel 23:3 And they committed whoredoms in Egypt; they committed whoredoms in their youth: there were their breasts pressed, and there they bruised the teats of their virginity. • Ezekiel 23:21 “Thus thou calledst to remembrance the lewdness of thy youth, in bruising thy teats by the Egyptians for the paps of thy youth.”

  28. ‘There are many errors in the present style of female dress. It is injurious to health, and, therefore, a sin for females to wear tight corsets, or whalebones, or to compress the waist. These have a depressing influence upon the heart, liver, and lungs. the health of the entire system depends upon the healthy action of the respiratory organs.” 2SM473.1

  29. 8. Painting of eyes and lips • Jeremiah 4:30 And [when] thou [art] spoiled, what wilt thou do? Though thou clothest thyself with crimson, though thou deckest thee with ornaments of gold, though thou rentest thy face with painting, in vainshalt thou make thyself fair; [thy] lovers will despise thee, they will seek thy life.

How should we dress for church? • GENESIS 35:1 And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother. • 35:2 Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that [were] with him, Put away the strange gods that [are] among you, and be clean, and change your garments: • 35:3 And let us arise, and go up to Bethel; and I will make there an altar unto God,

  31. “Especial care should be taken to dress in a manner that will show a sacred regard for the holy Sabbath and the worship of God.” MYP 349.2

  32. “All who meet upon the Sabbath to worship God should, if possible, have a neat, well fitting, comely suit to wear in the house of worship. It is a dishonour to the Sabbath, and to God and His house, for those who profess that the Sabbath is holy of the Lord, and honourable, to wear the same clothing upon the Sabbath that they have worn through the week while labouring upon their farms, when they can obtain other.” 2SM474.2

  33. They assemble in His house, which is as the audience chamber of the Most High, where heavenly angels are in attendance, with but little respect, or reverence, as their clothing indicate.” 2 SM475.1

  34. “Better if they had ever remained outside the ranks of God’s loyal people. The house of God is dishonoured by such professors.” 2SM 474.2

  35. This class, if they had an engagement to meet a friend honoured by the world,... would exert themselves to appear in his presence with the best apparel that could be obtained; for his friend would feel insulted were they to come into his presence with hair uncombed, and garments uncleanly, and in disorder. Yet these persons think that it is no matter in what dress they appear, or in what condition of their persons, when they meet upon the Sabbath to worship God.” {Child Guidance 428}

REVELATION 14:6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, • 14:7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
