Discovery of Gases and Their Ideal Behavior in States of Matter
Gases were the last state of matter to be explored, with their behavior described as points without volume or intermolecular forces. Their discovery occurred between 1650 and 1800, with key contributions from Johann Baptista van Helmont, who coined the term "gas," to Joseph Priestley and Antoine Lavoisier, who identified oxygen and hydrogen. The development of gas laws, such as Boyle's and Charles' laws, led to the formulation of the Ideal Gas Law, which describes the behavior of gases under various conditions, shaping our understanding of gas properties today.
