In 2010, a partnership between the Chippewa National Forest and the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe was established to create a Plant Materials Center. This initiative focuses on harvesting and increasing seeds and propagules of native plants for revegetation and restoration projects. The center supports traditional plant gathering, provides habitat for native pollinators, and serves as a learning hub for ethnobotanical education and green job skills. Accomplishments include creating a species list, identifying collection sites, collaborating with Native elders, and initiating seed collection efforts.
