  4. Remember what the circumference and diameter of a circle are! • The circumference is the measurement of the entire length all around the complete circle. • The diameter is the length across the entire center of the circle. • Note that the radius is half the diameter.

Hands On Activity • In groups of three decide who will be the recorder, measurer, and spokesperson. • Next take a circular object that will be given to your group and measure the circumference and diameter of the object – your entire group must agree on the measurements. • Record the name of the object (example soup can) and the measurements your group found for the circumference and diameter. • Divide the circumference by the diameter and record the result in the comparison column of your chart. • What pattern do you notice about all the comparisons of the objects?

Let’s Practice! • Find the circumference of a circle whose diameter measures 12 cm. • Find the circumference of a circle who radius measures 5 feet. • Find the area of the circles from #1 and #2 • Find the volume of a cylinder where the diameter measures 20 inches and the height is 15 inches tall. • Find the volume of a cylinder whose height is 10 feet tall and had a radius that is 6 feet long.
