  1. Body Systems Interaction

  2. 1. Interacting Systems • Complex animals use several linked body systems to respond to events in their environment. • Most of the interactions involve the nervous or endocrine systems. These systems are responsible for controlling and coordinating other systems.

  3. 2. Circulatory and Digestion • Food is broken down by the digestive system. • The nutrients are exchanged in the small intestine at point called villi. • The nutrients diffuse through the capillary walls where they are transported throughout the body via the circulatory system

  4. 3. Digestive, Excretory and Circulatory Systems • Water is absorbed in the large intestine where capillaries collect it and transport it throughout the body via the circulatory system. • The excess water and nitrogen waste are absorbed by the kidneys, which are the main organs of the excretory system. • The liver also absorbs wastes from the circulatory system

  5. 4. Circulatory and Immune System • The circulatory system is the mode of transportation for the immune system • White blood cells travel to infection sites via blood vessels.

  6. 5. Respiratory and Circulatory • The Respiratory System collects oxygen. • The oxygen is exchanged with the circulatory system in alveoli. • Capillaries surround the alveoli and exchange oxygen while leaving Carbon Dioxide.

  7. 6. Respiratory with Excretory • The respiratory system works with the excretory system to rid the body of Carbon dioxide. • The exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide takes place in the alveoli of the lungs.

  8. 7. Reproductive and Nervous Systems • The reproductive system depends on the nervous system for timing. • Stimuli • Mating rituals • Time of year • Phases of the moon • seasons • Etc.

  9. Reproductive and Endocrine • Pituitary gland regulates activities of the ovaries and testis via hormones • Activate ovaries and testis at puberty.
