  2. To start with… • Solve the mystery: who was off task for over half the lesson and why? • Put your ideas onto the sugar paper • You have 17 minutes • What ruined the pace of the lesson? • What could the teacher do reduce the impact on the lessons pace and ultimately the pupils learning?

  3. Why is pace important? • Appropriate pace: • Allows all pupils to make progress • Improves pupils attainment • Improves pupils motivation and engagement • Reduce classroom management issues

  4. How can you maintain pace in lessons? • Effective start to the lesson • Ensure work is sufficiently differentiated • SEN Pupils • MAT Pupils • Have timings clearly stated and stick to them • Structured planning

  5. Big challenge for pace • Pupils who have a SEN or are identified as MAT • Discuss and make notes on your sugar paper about how you can prevent a loss of pace when dealing with SEN/MAT pupils • You have 8 minutes
