  1. Compound Area Compound area is where a shape can be made up of other shapes. The area of a compound shape can be found by calculating the area of the shapes from which they can be formed, and adding these together. Here is a compound shape made of 2 rectangles. 1 2

  2. Compound Area Calculate the area of this compound shape: 3cm 6cm 7cm 4cm

  3. Compound Area Calculate the area of this compound shape: 3cm 6cm 7cm 4cm 24cm² + 21cm² = Area = (4cm x 6cm) + (3cm x 7cm) = 45cm²

  4. Compound Area Calculate the area of this compound shape: 5cm 7cm 9cm 6cm 42cm² + 45cm² = Area = (6cm x 7cm) + (5cm x 9cm) = 87cm²

  5. Compound Area Calculate the area of this compound shape: 3cm 6cm 8cm 2cm 16cm² + 18cm² = Area = (2cm x 8cm) + (3cm x 6cm) = 34cm²

  6. Compound Area Calculate the area of this compound shape: 5cm 10cm 5cm 4cm 40cm² + 25cm² = Area = (4cm x 10cm) + (5cm x 5cm) = 65cm²
