Status Update Date: February 8, 2011 Group: CubeSatDeorbit Device Members: Jake Tynis Joshua Laub Lindsey Andrews
Previous work • Performed lab test to examine different folding techniques and frontal surface area when inflated • Downloaded STK software and became more familiar with the program’s capabilities
Previous work (cont’d) Budget • Added details to budget for different designs (space-qualified and lab alternate)
Previous work (cont’d) • Constructed mock-up device container • Materials: • Obtained quotes on aluminum from suppliers • Got in touch with WackerChemie AG, manufacturer of Elastosil S 36 • Approached DuPont about Suva 236fa • Contacted ASCO for quote on micro solenoid valve
Current Work • Interfacing with WackerChemie to find a suitable alternative to Elastosil S 36 • Still working with DuPont (slow to respond) • Writing budget proposal • Preparing to meet with NASA to discuss exploration of different materials • Gathering information about a lab set-up using micro solenoid valve with labview
Planned work • Short-Term: • Meet with NASA materials group • Finish and send out budget proposal • Continue looking into valve actuator of deorbit device • Long-Term • Order materials • Investigate electronic initiation of lid opening • Build lab-setup with actuator capability
