Comprehensive Guide to Honors Geometry Chapter 2: Proofs and Angle Relationships

DESCRIPTION

This resource covers essential topics from Honors Geometry Chapter 2, focusing on perpendicularity, angle complements, and supplements. Learn to write equations involving these angles and develop proof skills using various properties like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. This guide also includes one-step and two-column proofs, emphasizing congruent pairs of segments and angles. Access online videos for a more interactive learning experience, and discover tips to enhance your proof-writing proficiency. Perfect for mastering the foundational concepts in Geometry!

  1. Chapter Two Review Honors Geometry

  2. Ch. 2 Test Topics • Perpendicularity • Write equations involving complements and supplements of angles (including both in same equation) (VIDEOS ONLINE!) • Write proofs involving comp/supp angles. • Write proofs involving complements/supplements of the same angle. • Write proofs involving complements /supplements of congruent angles. (VIDEOS)

  3. Ch. 2 Test Topics (con’t) • Use addition/subtraction/mult/division properties in proofs. (VIDEOS) • Use transitive/substitution properties in proofs (VIDEOS) • One-Step Proofs (if/then statements or property name)(VIDEOS) • Two-column Proofs (VIDEOS)

  4. Addition Property • CONGRUENT PAIRS of segs/angles • Given angles and segments that are smaller than the final angles/segs. • Need TWO pairs of congruent parts (or a shared part) • Angles/segs generally not divided into equal-sized pieces

  5. Subtraction Property • CONGRUENT PAIRS of segs/angles • Given angles and segments that are larger than the final angles/segs. • Need TWO pairs of congruent parts (or a shared part) • Angles/segs generally not divided into equal-sized pieces

  6. Multiplication Property • Must have CONGRUENT PAIRS of segs/angles. • Given segs/angles smaller than final segs/angles. • Segs/angles broken into congruent parts (usually double use of bisect/trisect/midpoint)

  7. Division Property • Must have CONGRUENT PAIRS of segs/angles. • Given segs/angles larger than final segs/angles. • Segs/angles broken into congruent parts (usually double use of bisect/trisect/midpoint)

  8. Proof Tips • Label given information on diagrams • Know ch. 1 and ch. 2 IF/THEN statements • When using comp/supp of congruent angles, make sure to show two pairs of comp. or supp angles! • Look for PAIRS of statements – comp/supp angles, mdpts, bisectors, trisectors • When using properties, make sure to show original segs/angles CONGRUENT!!! • If stuck, at least list all facts resulting from givens (and label on diagram).
