The Arctic Ocean has many thousands of big and small islands and is almost surrounded by land: the northern parts of Europe, Asia and North America. - The Antarctic is an isolated continent surrounding the South Pole. Most of Antarctica's land lies beneath ice and snow almost two km thick. It has high mountains and glaciers. IPY (International Polar Year March 2007- March 2009): Determine the present environmental status of the Polar Regions by quantifying their spatial and temporal variability, quantify and understand past and present environmental (and human) change A huge number of international educational projects will take place during IPY by Polar Institutions and National IPY Committees around the world (http://www.ipy.org/). The Polar Education and Teachers Day informs on these projects and on the possibilities for Luxembourg teachers, educators and students (primary, secondary, university) to participate and to contribute in an active way to IPY (*) For organization reasons, please do a pre inscription at antoine.kies@uni.lu before November 20th
