Walter Moody Jr., who used mail bombs to assassinate a federal appeals court judge and a civil rights lawyer in 1989, was executed Thursday night at the Alabama prison where he spent decades denying his guilt. With his execution by lethal injection, Moody, 83, became the oldest prisoner put to death in the modern era of American capital punishment. Earlier Thursday, the Supreme Court denied the appeals from Moody's attorney after temporarily delaying his death by lethal injection. Moody turned down a final meal from the state instead eating two Philly cheese steak sandwiches and drinking two Dr Peppers on another day during a visit with friends and attorneys at the Holman Correctional Facility in Atmore, Alabama, where he was executed.

  3. In Other News • Authorities in Berlin, Germany will attempt to dispose of an unexploded World War II-era bomb found during construction work near the city's central train station. Buildings will be evacuated, and bus and train routes will be affected as police work to defuse the 1,100-pound bomb. The discovery of bombs from World War II is not uncommon in Germany. • Ex-NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani is joining Trump's personal legal team. He'll deal with special counsel Robert Mueller, hoping to give "a little push" to close the Russia probe. Giuliani and Mueller have known each other for years. • A big stumbling block to getting nukes off the Korean Peninsula has been North Korea's insistence that the US pull its 28,000 troops out of South Korea. Now, it seems that hurdle is gone. South Korean President Moon Jae-in says the North is dropping that demand as a precondition for talks on denuclearization. Moon and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un meet next week for a historic summit, with Kim and President Trump planning to meet sometime in May or June. • Illinois Sen. Tammy Duckworth made history by casting a vote on the Senate floor with her newborn baby at her side. The senate made a change to the longstanding rules to allow newborns -- for the first time -- onto the Senate floor during votes.
