This document explores various extreme weather patterns, including tornadoes, tropical hurricanes, lake effect snowstorms, monsoons, and El Niño. It provides insights into the formation and characteristics of each phenomenon. Tornadoes are violent winds primarily found in Tornado Alley during spring, while hurricanes develop over warm ocean waters from June to November. Lake effect snowstorms occur near the Great Lakes in winter, and monsoons are significant air movements impacting regions like Central America and Australia during summer. El Niño events can cause severe flooding along the west coast.

Tornadoes • Tornadoes are violently whirling winds, usually visible as a funnel-shaped vortex. • It extends down from storm clouds. • It happens because of severe thunderstorms. • They can occur anywhere, but mostly in the southern regions of the US. Tornadoes can occur whenever. • They mostly occur in the spring. Table of Contents
Tornado Alley • The Tornado Alley is the states where masses of tornadoes happen every year. • These states are: Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana. • This is where each spring, masses of air collide and form tornadoes. Table of Contents
Tropical Hurricanes • A tropical hurricane is a huge, rotating storm that forms over warm ocean water near the equator. • It happens because the wind over the ocean picks up water and spins out to the land. • These weather events occur in the ocean, by a coastal area, and then spins to land. • Tropical hurricanes occur often. It usually happens between June and November. Table of Contents
Lake Effect Snowstorms • This is a heavy snowfall that is by a lake. • It is caused by special circumstances that involve cold air, winds, and warm water. • These storms are made in areas close to the Great Lakes. • These occur not to often. • They occur in the winter, when it is cold. Table of Contents
Monsoons • A Monsoon is a great big movement of air. • It happens because cold air sinks producing high pressure and the warm air rises. • These happen near Central America and Australia • They occur very often • They occur during the season of summer Table of Contents
El Nino • This is an event that causes major flooding • It happens because a warm ocean current appears off of the west coast. • These happen near the west coast • It forms on some years, but not on others • These happen in December and can occur for 18 months. Table of Contents
