  1. Intro to detailed study

  2. How Beauty Feels • "How Beauty Feels“ • While you are viewing, consider the following: • In what way is a designer like an author? • How do authors get us to 'think' and 'feel' beauty?

  3. Pastiche • Take out your “substantial paragraph.” • Change the subject and write about it imitating the style of the original. In order to become closely familiar with the prose style of the author, you must: • write about your subject (try to choose something quite different) • follow the exact placement of words and the very same sentence structure • where there is a noun, substitute your own noun; where there are several clauses, or where there is a simple sentence, you must imitate these also • end up with exactly the same number of words as the original.

  4. Share and Discuss • Share both the original and your imitation with a group of three or four. • Discuss your results/findings.

  5. Analysis and Evaluation (two paragraphs) • What did you learn about the author’s style? Consider: • Word choice • Sentence length • Sentence structure • Figurative language and/or imagery • Tone • Were you successful in your imitation? Explain.

  6. Unit Calendar Journal assignments
