  2. The differences in people based on a combination of individual characteristics and life experiences. The blending of our uniqueness, mix of cultures, values and beliefs create diversity. Diversity creates an enriching environment for our business, customers and ourselves. Diversity Is:

KCI Diversity Guiding Principles Value diversity:The KCI is a unique, urban-based center of research, patient care and education, dedication to the prevention, early detection, treatment and eventual eradication of cancer. As such, we foster an environment where all are valued for their unique experiences and abilities and are rewarded for the contributions they make. Understands the communities serviced: As part of the tradition of learning, the KCI continues to seek to learn more about the communities it serves, to foster involvement in the delivery of health care and to be more effective in improving health status (health care, education, quality of life, employment). Diversity is a commitment to cultural knowledge and sensitive practices: The KCI offers the highest quality of care in a manner that is sensitive to cultural traditions an expectations of our patients, their relatives and visitors.

  4. KCI Diversity Guiding Principles Diversity is an integral part of everything we do: Our commitment to diversity is a compelling force in the development and execution of the business objectives. Fostering diverse communities are fundamental to our long-term success. Employee involvement and teamwork: Our goal is to create an inclusive, respectful environment where all employees can contribute to their fullest potential and support the continuous improvement of the business. Leadership: Leadership at all levels within the KCI is held accountable and responsible for creating an environment that fosters and values diversity.

Diversity of thoughts, skills and talents creates an enriching environment for our business, customers, and ourselves. • A welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone provides a competitive advantage. Thus, KCI becomes the place where individuals want to come for care, prepare for healthcare careers, and to work.

  6. Dimensions of Diversity Individually, we encompass dimensions such as gender, race, age, ethnicity, physical ability, and sexual orientation. Characteristics such as education, health status, religious beliefs and socio-economic status make us diverse and shape our views.

  11. Diversity and Customer Service are Related As a core building block of diversity, KCI focuses it’s attention on its customer’s needs and requests frequent feedback. The customer service standards are an expectation to be applied in every interaction with every individual at all times.

  12. Diversity Requires • A look at diversity requires: • Self-introspection- and an awareness of those whom we feel are different. What do you know about the people with whom you work or care for in your work who are not like you? What stereotypes do you bring which value or devalue? • Self-analysis of units/ departments: must identify the things that are hindering the success of the department. What is getting in the way of all being respectful, inclusive and valued? How do you support the mission in providing the best, quality, and customer friendly care? • Leadership to continue to attract those with diverse skills, to develop and grow the organization to reflect the community it serves.
