  2. Find the following definitions • Gravity. Braking distance • Stopping distance. Active Restraint • Kinetic energy. All Wheel Drive • Traction. Reaction distance • Force of impact. Perception distance • Total stopping distance. Friction • ABS. • passive restraint

  3. Under inflated tires - outer edges only contact the road • Overinflated tires - only center of tire grips road • Cold - tire pressure will decrease • Hot - tire pressure will increase

  4. A vehicle driven into a curve wants to go in what direction? • Straight • What side of the curve is higher on a "banked curve"? Inside or Outside • Outside

  5. What is the number of seconds used to estimate your total stopping distance under ideal conditions? • 4 seconds • What is "split traction"? • When braking and turning, you use some of your traction to turn and some to slow down/speed up

  6. Energy of motion - a vehicle stopping distance is in proportion to the square of it's change in speed. • Eg. A vehicle going 2x as fast needs 4x the distance to stop • Eg. A vehicle going 3x as fast needs 9x the distance to stop

  7. What are some factors that affect your braking distance? • Speed/vehicle condition / road surface/driver ability/ABS/hills/loads(weight of vehicle)
