  2. Points to remember… • A friendly letter is also called a personal letter. • You use it to share news and feelings with friends and relatives. • It has 5 parts.

  3. Date • The date is first part of a friendly letter. • It includes the month, day, and year. • The day and year are separated with a comma. Examples: March 3, 2008 December 10, 2006

  4. Salutation or Greeting • The second part is the greeting or salutation. • You greet the person to whom you’re writing. • A comma always follows the greeting. Examples: Dear Grandma, My dear Janet,

  5. Body • The main part of the letter is the body. • You write your message in the body. • Each paragraph of the body is indented.

  6. Body Example: How are you, Aunt Janet? I’m great. I just got my report card, and I got straight As. Mom gave me $10.00. I bought a kickball.

  7. Closing • You say “good-bye” in the closing of your letter. • A comma always follows the closing. Examples: Love, Sincerely, Yours truly,

  8. Signature • This is the last part of a friendly letter. • It is your name or nickname in cursive. Examples: Joann Fred Peanut
