  1. ELA News Next week, the students will continue to read informational text about winter holidays and describe the connection between two pieces of information in a text.  While reading complex texts, the students will focus on learning about the long  vowel /a/ such as came, take, and name. Ms. Tran’s 1st Grade News December 5, 2013 Don’t forget! • Monday, 12/9 – Informal Holiday Sing Along from 1:05-1:35 • Tuesday, 12/17 – Field Trip to SCU from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.(Please don’t forget their lunches.) Greetings! I hope you all enjoyed a peaceful Thanksgiving break with family and loved ones. This year is coming to an end, and this month will fly by as the students are immersed in activities and lessons about families and cultures from around the world. From last week’s homework, the students and I learned that we have families from countries including England, Taiwan, Russia, Peru, Holland, Germany, and India. We had fun labeling these places on our Immigration World Map and will continue to learn about cultures and traditions to address ELA and social studies standards. I’m also looking forward to seeing the students’ gingerbread houses by next week. The turkey project from last month turned out beautifully! Thank you for helping your child complete these family tasks! We will continue working with number patterns next week. We will work with numbers to 120. We will continue to learn how to find 10 more or 10 less than a number without having to count. We will be sending home a filled in 120 chart to use at home for help. Please refer to this to practice counting and writing numbers. Math News
