  2. Theme Statement • Often times when individuals lack civility and order, desire to gain superiority, or are easily aggravated they may use aggression and hostility to cope.

Ralph elbowed him to one side and knelt by the pile. (40) Significance: the boys disregard piggy’s feelings and don’t feel bad being aggressive towards him because he is different.

  4. “are you accusing-?””All I'm saying we’ve worked hard. That’s all. “they were both red in the face and found looking at each other difficult. (52) Significance: Ralph and jack are beginning to disagree on things and they became angry at each other.

  5. Roger let the way straight through the castles, kicking them over, burying the flowers, scattering the chosen stones. Maurice followed laughing and added to the destruction. (62) Significance: the older boys pick on those who are weaker than them and more vulnerable. They are not afraid to be aggressive and disrespectful.

(75) Significance: Jack is easily aggravated. And takes his anger out on someone he knows cant fight back. He always wants to feel like he’s in control.

Now you eat-all of you-and i –” (78) Significance: Jack is obsessed with killing and having power over others. When he achieves these things, he becomes overwhelmed and gets aggressive.

  8. Jack was on top of the sow, stabbing downward with his knife (149) Significance: when jack kills the pig it is extremely gruesome and he is no longer hesitant like the beginning of the novel.

  9. The desire to squeeze and hurt was over-mastering. (125) Significance: Even Ralph is getting pulled into this aggressive behaviour because its addicting and desirable to feel so in control.

  10. “he’s going to beat Wilfred.””what for?” roger shook his head doubtfully.”I don’t know. He didn’t say. He got anger and made us tie Wilfred up. He’s been “-he giggled excitedly-”he’s been tied for hours waiting-” (176) Significance: they have no reason for being aggressive they just take out their anger and savagery on the weak.

  11. How aggression relates to real life. In life aggression is a real thing that builds up in people until they cannot handle it any longer and they release their aggression in different ways. Such as going to the gym and playing contact sports. Also they relieve their aggression through violence and going to councillors.
