  2. New York • New York often called the Big Apple, has five boroughs : MANHATTAN , BROOKLYN , THE BRONX , QUEENS and STATET ISLAND.

MANHATTAN • Manhattan is an island borough of New York City, New York, USA, coterminous with New York County. • With a 2006 population of 1,611,581 living in a land area of 22.96 square miles (59.47  km²), it is the most densely populated county in the United States at 66,940 residents per square mile (25,846/km²

BROOKLYN • Brooklyn (named after the Dutch town Breukelen) is one of the five boroughs of New York City. • An independent city until its consolidation into New York in 1898, Brooklyn is New York City's most populous borough, with more than 2.5 million residents. • If the borough was still considered an independent city, it would be the 4th largest city in the United States

  5. Brooklyn is coterminous with Kings County, which is the most populous county in New York State, and the second most densely populated county in the United States (after New York County, which is the borough of Manhattan).

  6. THE BRONX • The Bronx is New York City's northernmost borough, coterminous with Bronx County. The Bronx is located northeast of Manhattan. It is the only one of the city's five boroughs situated primarily on the United States mainland (the others are on islands). As of 2006, the United States Census Bureau estimated that the borough's population was 1,361,473 ,which ranks fourth of the five boroughs.

  7. THE BRONX RIVER • The Bronx River, approximately 24 miles (38 km) long, flows through southeast New York in the United States. Its Native American name was the Aquahung before the arrival of European colonists, like Jonas Bronck, for whom the Bronx and its river are named, in 1639

  8. QUEENS • Queens is the largest in area and the second most populous of the five boroughs of New York City, New York, USA. Located on the western portion of Long Island, it is home to New York City's two major airports (John F. Kennedy and LaGuardia),

  9. As of the 2005 American Community Survey, immigrants comprise 47.6% of Queens residents . With a population of 2.2 million it is the second most populous borough in New York City (behind Brooklyn) and the tenth most populous county in the United States.

  10. STATEN ISLAND • Staten Island is a borough of New York City situated primarily on the island of the same name. It is separated from New Jersey by the Arthur Kill and the Kill Van Kull, and from the rest of New York by New York Bay. With a population of about 477,377, Staten Island is the least populated of the five boroughs but is the third largest in area at 59 sq mi (153 km²).

  14. THE STATUE OF LIBERTY • THE FRENCH PEOPLE GAVE THIS STATUE AS A GIFT TO THE AMERICANS IN 1886. • THE STATUE OF LIBERTY HAS A TORCH IN HER RIGHT HAND. IT MEANT HOPE FOR MANY PEOPLE WHO SAW IT WHEN THEY WERE ENTERING NEW YORK HARBOUR
