Mental disorder? • Video games can turn someone into a sociopath. • Common behavior: - Living just in your room - Ignoring friends and family - Avoiding eating, sleeping and showering - Being driven just by the obsession of levels and soars • Suicidal feeling • One can become as addicted to video games as he/she can be to drugs like heroin. • American Medical Association classified it as a psychiatric disorder. • The American Psychological Association thinks it should not be include in the DSM.

  4. causes • Players play for more reasons than fun alone • Many video games satisfy basic psychological needs • Players often continue to play because of rewards, freedom, and a connection with other players

  5. symptoms • Divided in 2 categories: • In teens: • Preoccupation • Downplaying computer use • Lack of control • Loss of time • Negative impacts in other areas of life • Mixed feelings • Misuse of money • Defensiveness • Hiding from uncomfortable feeling or situation

  13. prevention • Parents: • - Set boundaries (maximum 1-2 hours) • - Shut down the computer with a scheduled time to stop their child of playing games. • - Avoid letting their child start playing early. • - Limit access  keep game systems and computers on common areas, not in the child’s room. • - Set firm limits  Don’t give up to the “5 more minutes” • - Keep their child busy and involved • - Seek for intervention

I really want to quit but i cant.
