What is the UN? • Founded in 1945 to replace the League of Nations • Original intent was to prevent wars between countries and to create a platform for dialogue • Currently works to facilitate cooperation in international law, international security, economic development, social progress, human rights, and the achievement of world peace

  3. What is the MUN? • An academic simulation of the United Nations • Educates participates about civics, current events, and diplomacy • Students form teams, are assigned to research a country, take on roles as diplomats, investigate international issues, debate, and develop solutions to world problems

  4. MUN Conference Preparation Before the conference starts: • You get assigned a country • Do research • Write a position paper During the Conference: • General Assembly • Committees • Speakers list • Drafting resolutions • Lobbying • Voting resolutions
