World War I, lasting from 1914 to 1918, remains one of the most devastating conflicts in history, with over 16 million lives lost and countless others wounded. It involved major powers such as Germany, Austria-Hungary, the Ottoman Empire, Allied nations including France, Britain, and the United States, and was sparked by the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Its complex causes and far-reaching effects continue to shape our world today.
