  2. How Many Seeds in a Pumpkin? • Author: Margaret McNaramra • Summary: “How many seeds in a pumpkin?”, Mr. Tiffin asks his classas they gather round the big, medium, and small pumpkins on his desk. Robert, the biggest kid, guesses that the largest one has a million seeds; Elinor, sounding like she knows what she’s talking about, guesses the medium one has 500 seeds; and Anna, who likes even number better than odd ones, guesses that the little one has 22. Charlie, the smallest boy in the class, doesn’t have a guess. Counting pumpkin seeds is messy business, but once the slimy job is done, to everyone’s surprise, the smallest pumpkin has the most seeds! As Charlie happily exclaims, “Small things have a lot going on inside of them.”.

  3. It’s Pumpkin Time! • Author: Zoe Hall • Summary: A brother and sister get ready for Halloween early by planting their own pumpkin patch. Readers will discover the simple joys of gardening and enjoy watching the exciting transformation from pumpkin seed to jack-o’-lantern. Color illustrations throughout.

This treat of a picture book comes cloaked in the colors of fall. Bouncy verse and glowing photographs show a backyard pumpkin patch move through its natural cycle – a bugs eye and a bird’s eye view of seeds sprouting, flowers blooming, bees buzzing, pumpkins growing, and then going back to earth. An author’s note explains how to grow your own pumpkin.

  6. Picking Apples and Pumpkins • Author: Richard Hutchings • Summary: It’s fun to pick apples! Take a hayride, climb up into the apple trees, and pick the apples you like best. Then, pick out a big orange pumpkin! Spend the day with Kristy, her family, and two best friends as they pick apples and pumpkins at Battleview Orchards in New Jersey.
