  2. Kindergarten Goals • Learn to read to at least a level E (see books at your table) • Learn 100 sight words (or more  ) • Learn to write own stories • Learn to count to 100 or higher • Learn beginning math concepts of patterns, cardinal and ordinal numbers, one to one correspondence

  4. Tutoring/Cub Club • Cub club/ intervention is from 1:50-2:50

  5. Kindergarten Schedule • 7:50-8:00 Put things away, get ready for the day, lunch count • 8:00-8:10 Announcements, morning message • 8:10-8:35Calendar and songs • 8:35-9:30 Math • 9:30-10:00Social studies/ Science • 10:00-10:15 Snack/Recess • 10:15-11:20 ELAR/Art on Friday • 11:20-11:50 Lunch • 11:50-12:10 Recess • 12:10-12:45Journals/targeted skill work • 12:45-1:45 Music and PE • 1:45-2:45Literacy Centers/Guided Reading • 2:45-3:00 Pack up/get ready to go home

  6. Important things to know… • We eat lunch at 11:20 • You can only bring lunch for your child!!!! • Snack is at 10:00 - please send a HEALTHY snack to eat in the morning and water with a sport top lid only. Please make sure your child knows how to open his/her snack. • Send jackets (when the weather gets cooler ) – we will be playing outside!

  7. Sending $ to school • Please send any money in a sealed envelope with name and purpose

  8. In the morning… • If you arrive to school before 7:55am, students must sit quietly in room 409 (two teachers will be on duty with them). The front doors open at 7:25, the kider doors open at 7:30. There is NO teacher here on duty before 7:25 • A student is considered tardy after 8:00 After 3:10… • Pick students up at the office or at the front of the school.

  9. Library • Children can check out books each week. Please bring them back in the library bags by or before the next Tuesday!

  10. P.E. • Your child must wear running shoes to PE or they will be docked points on their grades. • Make sure that girls wear shorts under skirts. • If your child needs to sit out during P.E., please send a note and we will get it to Coach Broadhurst.

  11. Tuesday and Behavior Folders • Green Tuesday Folders go home every Tuesday; please return on Wednesday. • Behavior folder (yellow folder)

  12. Homework • Homework will go home on Tuesdays in the Tuesday folder. When doing homework please have your child use a pencil. (and hold it correctly.) • Please read to your child or have them read to you each night. • Practice sight words

  13. Coming Up… • We will start guided reading groups in October • After they read a book with me, they will bring it home in a bag with a reading log! • Please read the book and send the bag and log signed back the next day!!!! (this is very important!!!!!) Why guided reading is important? They read to you and you to them!

  14. Conferences • We will have a conference with each parent starting the middle of October. • If you would like to schedule a conference before then, our conference time is from 12:45-1:45 or after school if needed.

  15. Report Card You may access the grade book at any time to see what your child’s grade is. www.canyonisd.net

  16. Temperature • Due to budget cuts our A/C will not go any lower than 72. Usually around 75 or hotter. It is hot in here! Please dress with that in mind (but girls are not allowed to wear spaghetti strap shirts  ) • Heater-it will not get any warmer than 68 degrees. Dress in layers!

  17. Birthdays • You are welcome to bring a treat for your child’s birthday (if you want to). The treats must be sent with your child or dropped off by lunch time. Please no cake that needs to be cut. Cookiesor individual treats are best!

  21. Student Log ins • At your child’s desk is a paper with his/her log in and pass word. • This is the number you need to log on to see their grades or to add money to their lunch account • This is also how they will log on to the computer. • Please practice at home

  22. Extra info • Kinder t-shirt for field trips • Student teacher – coming soon  • If you have a problem with grades/conduct in music and PE, please contact those teachers directly. • Cafeteria – please talk with your child about getting ice cream.
