  2. Alamo • The Alamo battle took place in San Antonio Texas from February 23rd to March 6th 1836.from February 23rd to March 6th 1836.

  3. Alamo • The word Alamo is Spanish for Cottonwood and it is believed by some that the name originated from a nearby cluster of such tree.

  4. Alamo • For such a busy place, there are several corners of the Alamo complex that are quiet and tranquil. One of them is this fountain. The four sides are engraved with the names of four of the defenders. Bonham, Bowie, Travis and Crockett. Squirrels are plentiful and so are doves and other birds that visit the fountain for water.

  5. Travis • On February 24 Travis assumed full command when Bowie fell victim to a mysterious malady variously described as "hasty consumption" or "typhoid pneumonia and wrote give me victory or death.

  6. Interesting fact • The Alamo was already 100 years old at the siege of the battle.

  7. The church was designed without the benefit of a master engineer, the roof collapsed almost immediately, and this portion of the mission was never actually completed.

  8. James bowie • 19th-century American pioneer and soldier, played a prominent role in the Texas Revolution, culminating in his death at the Battle of the Alamo. Stories of him as a fighter and frontiersman, both real and fictitious, have made him a legendary figure in Texas history and a folk hero of American culture.

  9. Sam Houston • was a 19th-century Americanstatesman, politician, and soldier. He was born in Timber Ridge in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, of Scots-Irish descent. Houston became a key figure in the history of Texas, and was elected as the first and third President of the Republic of Texas, US Senator for Texas after it joined the United States, and finally as governor of the state.   10. Davy Crockett • He is referred to in popular culture as Davy Crockett and after the 1950s by the epithet “King of the Wild Frontier.” He represented Tennessee in the U.S. House of Representatives, served in the Texas Revolution, and died at the Battle of the Alamo.

  11. William Travis • was a 19th century Americanlawyer and soldier. At the age of 26, he was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Texan Army, and commanded the Republic of Texas forces. He died at the Battle of the Alamo during the Texas Revolution from the Republic of Mexico.
