  1. Principles of Collegiate Success Midterm Project My Personal Resume Laura Elizabeth Bean Section 4

  2. Background: High School At Yellville-Summit High School, I was labeled as an “overachiever,” a goodie-goodie who never had much fun. I was member of the basketball, softball, and volleyball teams, as well as the 2011 basketball homecoming queen and valedictorian. Clubs and organizations I was active in included Senior Class President, Future Business Leaders of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honors Society, Rotary Interact, and Yell-Kat Newspaper staff. There are several accomplishments I am very proud of academically, athletically, and spiritually. Academically, I achieved a 30 on my ACT, highest among my graduating class, and received the Governor’s Scholarship, which gave me the opportunity to meet Governor Mike Beebe. Athletically, I was able to play on a state tournament basketball and volleyball team. I also was awarded the All-Conference award for 3A softball at my school. Spiritually, I was able to overcome a great tragedy in my life. On September 11, 2009, one of my best friend was killed in a car accident. With God’s strength, I was able to use this obstacle to share the Gospel with others. My best subjects in high school were Journalism and math, but my favorite classes were European History and Accounting.

  3. Current Life: Arkansas Tech University My story of move-in day and first day of classes was nothing abnormal. Since my hometown in a couple of hours north of Russellville, we had to leave home several hours before my scheduled move-in time. When we arrived in Russellville, my nervousness and anticipation set in. My worst fears of being alone were quickly relieved when I recognized girls from other schools I had come to know through sports. I also met my roommate, Caitlin, for the first time. God blessed me with a wonderful Christian roommate who is very considerate, friendly, and caring. After setting up my dorm, my mom, dad, brother, boyfriend, and I ate lunch at Whatta-Burger and shopped at Wal-Mart. I will admit that when they had to leave me, I was sad, but it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. Now, I have several friends who I get to spend time with every day, and I get to go home every weekend. My advice to future freshman is to not judge college based on the freshman orientation. Once the rush of the first week is over, it all settles down to normal. It is not necessary to get involved in every activity, but it does not hurt to participate in a weekly bible study or attend a free Tech ball game.

  4. Future Life: Journalism, May 2015 I hope my immediate family will attend my graduation, including my mom, dad, brother, grandma, and other relatives. Because Russellville is several hours away from where most of my family resides, it will be difficult for the majority of them to come. After the graduation ceremony, I imagine we will go out to eat at a nice restaurant or have a small get-together at my home. I am not positive that I will pursue Journalism as my major at Arkansas Tech, but if I complete my degree in this area, I hope my first job will be at a newspaper or television station. I anticipate working up the career ladder and retiring near the top of a business before I retire. Other careers I am considering include public relations, teaching, or marketing and management.

  5. Summary: “Who are you, and who will you be?” I am Laura Elizabeth Bean, an “overachiever.” I am a hardworking Christian college freshman who desires to make an impact in someone’s life. I will be an Arkansas Tech University Graduate, a wife, a mom, and a leader in my community. Core values that will help me achieve these goals include spirituality, family, and academic success. My faith in God is already helping me conquer college and will continue to aid me in the future. Encouragement and strength from my family has always pushed me to do my best. The academic success I will strive for will aid me in getting a job that will support my family.
