  3. What is Wrong? “So bye bye Miss American Pie” (Lyrics007.com). • IN-TEXT Citation should be the TITLE of the PAGE or the Author – NOT the title of the website or URL “So bye bye Miss American Pie” (“Don McLean –American Pie”).

  4. What is Wrong? “So bye bye Miss American Pie.” (Don McLean – American Pie) (HINT: There are TWO mistakes) • The period goes AFTER the in-text citation! • Page Titles get quotation marks around them! “So bye bye Miss American Pie” (“Don McLean – American Pie”).

  5. What is Wrong? The lyrics found on the Lyrics007 website can be used to understand symbolism. • Website titles are italicized if typed or underlined if hand-written. The lyrics found on the Lyrics007 website can be used to understand symbolism.

  6. What is Wrong? Fann stated McLean was clearly relating a defining moment in American experience—something had been lost, and we knew it. • All direct quotes need quotation marks around them!!! (This is clearly plagiarism!) Fann stated, “McLean was clearly relating a defining moment in American experience—something had been lost, and we knew it.”

  7. What is Wrong? Fann suggests that ““Drove my Chevy to the levee” alludes to … a series of popular 1950s Chevrolet television commercials sung by Dinah Shore.” • Quotes inside of your direct quote get single quotation marks: Fann suggests that “‘Drove my Chevy to the levee’ alludes to … a series of popular 1950s Chevrolet television commercials sung by Dinah Shore.”

  8. Other Notes: • Use an EXCITING Hook • Don McLean was a famous singer and songwriter. • Imagine writing one hit song and then riding that wave of fame for 40+ years. Don McLean… • You must reference at least 3 sources in your paper. • Any source listed on your Works Cited page MUST be referenced somewhere in your paper. (The Works Cited page is made from your source cards.)
