To what extent are numbers processed by the ventral visual stream? • Can this be modified by task demands? • 5 conditions: • Reading words • Reading numbers • Reading narratives • Reading calculations • False Font Plus fixation / other neutral stimuli? the cat sat on the mat 200 +1000 =1200 x20 =24000 -20000 =4000

Design: • ~ 20 right handed, healthy volunteers • Block design • 22.5 second blocks • 12 second inter-block interval • 5 repetitions of each condition per run, 2 runs • Total of 3 min 45 seconds acquisition per condition • Run time total = 14 minutes 10 seconds • Scanning protocol: • 2 second whole-brain EPI, 425 volumes per run • MPRAGE structural scan • Field maps?
