  3. Offer vs. Serve School lunches must offer the five food components specified in the meal pattern each day... Under Offer vs. Serve, students must be allowed to decline two items at lunch, except that the students must select at least ½ cup of either the fruit or vegetable component. 7CFR 210.10(c)

  4. Offer vs. ServeWhat Has not Changed: Lunch: • Required for senior high schools • Optional for lower grades Breakfast: • Optional for all grade levels

  5. Offer vs. ServeWhat Has not Changed: Offer all five (5) components in the required portion size

  9. Offer vs. ServeNew Requirement NEW! Students must select at least ½ cup of either the fruit component or the vegetable component.

  10. Offer vs. Serve If a student selects only 3 components and one is ½ cup of fruit or ½ cup of vegetable, the other 2 components must be full servings.

  11. A K-5 or 6-8 student selects… • ½ cup Vegetable (Partial portion) • ½ cup Fruit (Full portion) • 8 oz. Milk (Full portion)

  12. A 9-12 student would need to select… • ½ cup Vegetable (Partial portion) • 1 cup Fruit (Full portion) • 8 oz. Milk (Full portion)
