  1. Oregon Linked Degree Audit Using Technology to Streamline Transfer

  2. What Does Degree Audit Reporting System (DARS) Do? • Tracks course work completed by individual students • Prepares a report for each student showing his/her degree requirements – which ones have been met and which ones need to be completed

  3. What Does a Linked Degree Audit System Offer? • A powerful advising tool for planning academic programs that lead to degrees • A tool to facilitate seamless transfer of a student’s courses from community colleges to universities • The opportunity for students to find the best match between the course work they’ve completed and all degree programs in Oregon • Elimination of advising errors that contribute to the accumulation of unnecessary credits

  4. What Does a Linked Degree Audit System Add? • A central resource for Oregon students and advisors to obtain information on courses and how each transfers to other institutions • Immediate comparison of a student’s completed or contemplated course work with degree programs at any linked school

  5. What PSU has to say about Degree Audit Reporting Systems and linked Course Applicability Systems Cindy Baccar, Associate Director Admissions, Registration & Records, Portland State University • “Once we put in the work of building our Degree Audit Reporting System (DARS), the addition of the Course Applicability System (CAS) required relatively little work and paid big dividends in terms of efficiency and accuracy in student transfer planning. Moreover, community colleges do not need their own Degree Audit Systems, or membership in CAS, to assist students in transferring to PSU. Students simply create individual accounts, type in the coursework they’ve taken, and list the majors they’re considering. CAS takes the mystery and uncertainty out of credit transfer and assessment of degree progress, even when students have attended multiple institutions.”

  6. Oregon Linked Degree Audit Systemand the Community Colleges • Leaves NO institution behind • Creates accurate information for dissemination • Provides immediate information and feedback to students – 24 hours/day and 7 days/week • Eliminates inaccuracy within our existing paper-based transfer and advising processes • Speeds up the manual processes of sharing course transfer information between institutions

  7. How would we get started? • If it doesn’t already exist, purchase and install degree audit software at individual campuses • Degree Audit Reporting System (DARS) or • Curriculum Advising and Program Planning (CAPP) • Purchase and implement an internet system that links all campus-based degree audit systems: • Course Applicability System (CAS) • Purchase and install interface software to link non-DARS degree audit systems to CAS

  8. The Oregon Linked Degree Audit System will: • provide students with full and complete information to facilitate a seamless transfer of credits and degrees from community colleges to universities • assist students in planning academic programs • provide students the opportunity to find the best match between completed course work and degree programs at multiple institutions • eliminate costly advising errors that contribute to the accumulation of unnecessary credits
